Brotherhood of Gallic Smugglers (BGS)
The faction known as the BGS was originated by a few experienced pilots who, using their knowledge of Sirius, trade in items normally forbidden in some systems, including main house authorities.
The BGS founder was a Bretonian Privateer who, after witnessing the tyranny of the brutal Gallic authorities sought to smuggle refugees from under the watchful eyes of the GRN into the safe hands of the Council and other sympathetic organisations. As news of these rescues filtered throughout the Bars of Sirius many other pilots joined this cause using all manner of small and nimble civilian craft. They would return into Gallia to rescue more refugees but carry arms and humanitarian commodities into Gallia for the various resistance movements.
However, the goodwill of the BGS in allowing the refugees free passage to freedom pushed the BGS into near bankruptcy. Therefore, they used their skills to smuggle other goods and contraband throughout Sirius in order to finance their humanitarian aid. While covertly regarded by many as saints for their morality, they have become a thorn in the side of many police forces who continue to try to disrupt the activities of the BGS. To the Gallic Security Forces, the BGS are classed as terrorists.
While they may be arrested and have their contraband confiscated while smuggling, many authorities ignore them if their cargo holds are empty when scanned.
There is no rank structure to the BGS. The Captain/Pilot of his own ship is his own commander. All of whom have signed up to their charter. However, there is an overriding boss of the BGS.
His name is - Papillon
The Smugglers Charter imposes the following rules on themselves:
They are not to attack or fire upon any none Gallic vessel unless it is to defend themselves when fired upon or to release slave ships from their despicable slave cargo.
They are not to take part in piracy except for the rescue of slaves. Goods captured from Gallic trade vessels are not considered as pirated loot as these items are often redistributed to support the revolt against Gallia.
They are not to become involved in house/faction wars. (The exception being the pan Sirius Nomad War.)
They are not to align themselves with outlawed organisations outside The Council.
They are not to smuggle slaves of any description but may deliver rescued slaves to the nearest base that do not sell slaves.
They are not to fulfil bounty contracts.
They may not align themselves to lawful factions less for The Council however they may engage in commissions on behalf of lawful factions. An example is the smuggling of armaments into Bretonian space. However, this does not exclude them from the law of the system involved.
They may use any civilian vessel but are excluded from the use of capital ships less for Gunboats. Owing to its practicality, the transport vessel “The Firefly”, has become the favoured ship of many BGS pilots.
